18 December 2014, Singapore - Shaw Theatres’ eighth cineplex at The Seletar Mall opens to public on 18 December 2014 with eight screens. The opening of the new digital boothless projection cinema is scheduled to coincide with the release of December blockbuster The Hobbit: The Battle of the Five Armies.
Mr. Mark Shaw, Executive Vice President of Operations, said: “Shaw Theatres Seletar is the first in our concept of boutique neighborhood cinemas.
The cineplex occupies a smaller footprint than conventional cinemas without compromising Shaw Theatre’s signature customer experience. Seletar’s halls feature the same wall-to-wallscreens with Dolby 7.1 Digital Surround Sound, luxury Figuer as seats and generous legroom as our larger venues. This is also our first boothless cineplex featuring top-in-class Christie Solaria One+projectors, ACT Digital Cinema Control systems and RealD 3D systems, the most comfortable and brightest 3D experience.”
Mr. Christopher Shaw, Executive Vice President of Film Distribution, added: "With the various means of consuming films today, we believe that the big screen cinema experience remains a clear choice that cannot be replicated by any other platform. Cinema-going remains the best way for people of all ages to enjoy movies in the unique way that film makers intended for them to be enjoyed. With Shaw Theatres Seletar, the increase in the number of halls will enable us to screen a greater variety of movies at any one time, and offer our customers the best choices and social experience in the market today."
Shaw Theatres, part of the Shaw Organisation, was founded by the Shaw Brothers and has been operating cinemas in Singapore since 1927. With Shaw Theatres Waterway Point, it now owns eight cineplexes across the island.
They also feature the latest in cinema technologies like IMAX, Dolby 7.1 Surround and RealD 3D systems. Shaw Theatres also manages a ninth cineplex, Century Cineplex, which is privately owned.
